West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK -The West Michigan Whitecaps' famous Fifth Third Burger has caught the eye of Travel Channel host Adam Richman, who will tackle the four-pound monster burger for an upcoming episode of Travel Channel's Man v. Food. The show will tape the episode during the Wednesday, July 15 Whitecaps game vs. the Peoria Chiefs, a 7 p.m. start.
Man v. Food follows Richman on his quest to indulge in the best traditional food the nation can serve up. In each episode, after Richman has tasted a city's most iconic dishes, he seeks out a local eating challenge. New premieres will begin August 5 on Travel Channel. The air date is still pending for the Fifth Third Burger challenge.
The Fifth Third Burger gained worldwide attention when it debuted in April. National networks such as NBC,CBS, ABC and ESPN all showed the burger on air, and news reports of the burger came from as far away as Australia; Colombia, South America; and Europe. The monstrous sandwich consists of five one-third pound beef patties (five thirds of a pound, named after Fifth Third Ballpark), nacho cheese, chili, salsa, crunched tortilla chips, tomato and lettuce served on a special 8-inch sesame seed bun. The entire burger weighs in at more than 4 pounds and consists of 4,889 calories and 299.5 grams of fat. More than 100 fans, or about a half of the people who have attempted the challenge, have conquered the burger and earned a commemorative t-shirt.
Fans who attend the game will see Adam warming up with the team, working with the trainer, and checking out all of Fifth Third Ballpark's food items before tucking in to the Fifth Third Burger.
The Whitecaps return home Thursday, June 25 for a four-game homestand to kick off the second half of the season against the Great Lakes Loons at 7:00 p.m. Individual and group tickets are on sale and can be purchased at the West Michigan Glass Block Ticket Office at Fifth Third Ballpark, by calling the Whitecaps front office at 616-784-4131 or by visiting www.whitecapsbaseball.com.
