Peoria Chiefs News Release
Grand Chute, WI - The Peoria Chiefs dropped the first game of the second half 4-1 Thursday night against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at Time Warner Cable Field. The loss drops the Chiefs to 38-32 overall and marks their eighth straight loss in June away from home.
After the Chiefs collected two hits but failed to score in the top of the first, Wisconsin pounded out four hits and scored three runs against Justin Bristow in the bottom of the frame. Mike Marseco singled with one out and moved to second on a base-hit by Corey Kemp. A fielders' choice off the bat of All-Star Brett Lawrie put runners on the corners with two down. Brock Kjeldgaard walked and John Delaney singled home a pair to put the Rattlers on top. Chris Dennis made it 3-0 with a single to right before Bristow struck out Michael Vass to end the inning.
Wisconsin added to their lead against Bristow in the fourth inning after the Chiefs left a runner in scoring position in the second. Bristow hit Delaney with the first pitch of the inning and Delaney was lifted for pinch-runner Jose Duran. After a four-pitch walk to Dennis, Vass bounced into a double play with Duran reaching third. Steve Braun put the home team up 4-0 with a double to left before Josh Harrison made an inning-ending diving catch in left.
Peoria finally got on the board against Wisconsin starter Alex Periard in the fifth. Michael Brenly doubled with one out and moved to third on a groundout by Drew Rundle. Harrison drove his 17th double of the season just under the glove of Duran at third to score Brenly and put the Chiefs down 4-1. Ryan Flaherty drew a walk to bring the tying run to the plate, but Nick Tyson relieved Periard and struck out Josh Vitters to end the threat.
Bristow (3-3) allowed four runs on five hits over five innings of work. He walked two, hit one and struck out three. Marcus Hatley allowed one hit and one walk over two shutout innings and Manolin DeLeon struck out one in a perfect eighth inning.
