Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars held a 3-2 lead after seven innings Thursday night but couldn't hold it, losing, 5-3, against the Beloit Snappers in front of 7,021 fans at Elfstrom Stadium. Scott Deal pitched a quality start but took a no-decision, and Larry Cobb led the offense with a two-run homer, his 11th.
Cobb's homer broke a scoreless tie with two outs in the third and was his second of the year against Beloit starter Michael McCardell (8-3). The 2-0 lead went away in the fourth when Deal gave up his only two runs, making it 2-2. Deal ceded just four hits, walked none and fanned five over seven innings in a no-decision and his third straight quality start.
The Cougars took a 3-2 lead with an unearned run in the fifth, as D.J. Hollingsworth scored following a two-base error and a long rundown. The advantage remained until Justin Friend (4-5) gave up three runs in the eighth, and the Snappers used Santos Arias in the ninth for his second save.
The Cougars (20-25) and Snappers (23-23) conclude their four-game series Friday night at 6:30 CT. Jamie Richmond (7-8, 4.52) will face David Bromberg (6-9, 5.25) before the Cougars go on the road for a four-game series in Wisconsin that starts Saturday night.
