August 7, 2008 - Gabe Jacobo had his best game as a Kernel, going 4 for 4 with three doubles and 4 RBI as the Cedar Rapids Kernels cruised to a 10-1 win over the Quad Cities River Bandits in front of 2,915 fans on Thursday night at Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Kernels starter Michael Davitt (5-7) allowed an unearned run in the second inning as he scattered six hits and struck out seven over eight innings pitched for the win. Clay Fuller was 1 for 4 and hit his seventh home run of the season in the fifth inning and Braulio Pardo was 1 for 4 with 2 RBI as the Kernels pounded out 11 hits in the game. Carlos Colmenares was 1 for 4 with an RBI and three runs scored and Julio Perez was 1-3 with an RBI.
Quad Cities starter Richard Castillo (6-2) allowed five runs (two earned) on seven hits, walked one and struck out six over six innings in taking the loss. Carlos Pupo was 3 for 3 and Blake Murphy was 2 for 3 for the River Bandits.
The Kernels improve to 25-20 in the second half and are in second place in the MWL West, three games behind first place Burlington. Quad Cities falls to 24-22 and 57-53 overall.
The final game of this four game series between the Kernels and River Bandits is Friday night at Dale and Thomas Popcorn Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Following the game, Bank of the West presents a spectacular, firework show. First pitch is scheduled for 7 pm with the gates opening at 6 o'clock.
