Bees Extend Winning Streak to Six Games with Win over Peoria

Peoria, IL (Aug 6, 2008) - The Burlington Bees pounded out 14 hits and defeated Peoria 6-2 Wednesday night. Six separate Bees had multiple hits in the game while Danny Gutierrez picked up his fourth win of the season after pitching seven innings.

For the second night in a row the Chiefs scored the first run of the ballgame as they scored one run in the bottom of the first inning. The Bees answered back in the top of the second. After Nick Van Stratten and Jamar Walton singled to lead the inning off, Juan Rivera put a bunt down to move both runners up. Ryan Eigsti then grounded out, which scored Van Stratten and moved Walton up. David Lough then doubled, which scored Walton from third.

The score remained 2-1 until the sixth inning. In the top of the sixth, Clint Robinson led off with a double and moved to third on a Van Stratten ground-out. Robinson then scored when Walton grounded out to second base. Peoria answered that run in the bottom of the inning. The Bees came back with another run in the seventh inning. Mike Moustakas doubled with two outs and then scored on a Kyle Martin double. Up 4-2, the Bees scored two more runs in the eighth to finish their scoring.

Gutierrez got the start for the Bees. In seven innings, he allowed two runs, only one of which was earned, on six hits with four strikeouts and just one walk. He took the win to move to 4-2 on the year. Brandon Sisk pitched the final two innings and did not allow a single base runner and recorded three strikeouts.

The Bees outhit Peoria 14-5. Eigsti led the way going 2-4 with a run scored and two RBI. Lough, Martin and Walton all had two hits and an RBI. Van Stratten and Rivera each had two hits.

The Bees and Peoria continue the series Thursday night at O'Brien Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00. Luis Cota is the scheduled starter.
