Richmond Leads Cougars Past Bees

GENEVA, IL - Jamie Richmond pitched eight solid innings Wednesday afternoon to help the Kane County Cougars defeat the Burlington Bees, 7-3, in front of 7,191 fans at Elfstrom Stadium. Richmond picked up his first victory since the end of May, and Corey Brown and Greg Dowling combined for five RBIs to lead a 10-hit offensive attack.

Brown delivered a first-inning RBI single against Eduardo Paulino (4-4) to extend his hitting streak to 10 games and give the Cougars a quick 1-0 lead. Richmond (6-7) retired the first six men he faced and allowed all three of his runs in the third before settling down again. He retired 15 of the final 17 batters he faced, scattering six hits, walking none and fanning three in the victory.

Adam Klein's RBI single in the fifth brought the Cougars to within a run, and Dowling smashed a two-out, two-run homer in the sixth to make it 4-3. Brown followed with a two-run single in the seventh for a 6-3 score, and Juan Nunez doubled home Dowling in the eighth for the game's final run. Nick Walters logged a scoreless ninth to close it out.

The Cougars (6-8) look to make it three in a row against the Bees (8-6) on Thursday night at 6 CT. Chad Kerfoot (3-1, 2.90) will face Danny Duffy (4-3, 3.43).
