Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

Quad Cities River Bandits starting pitcher Nick Additon has been dealing all season long, and the St. Louis Cardinals recognized his impressive 2008 campaign by naming the southpaw the organization's Pitcher of the Month for June.

Additon, a 20-year-old from Davie, Florida, went 2-0 with a 1.53 ERA in six appearances (five starts) during the month, striking out 27 while allowing just 19 hits over 29.1 innings of work. He held opposing hitters to a .192 batting average in the process. His scoreless innings streak of 31.2 frames ended in his first outing of the second half on June 19, but stood as the longest in all of Minor League Baseball at the time.

The soft-tossing lefty with pinpoint control is 6-2 with a 2.28 ERA on the year, leading the club with 74 strikeouts in 75 innings. He has allowed just 59 hits in 18 appearances (12 starts), sporting a stingy opposing batting average of .221. Additon has been especially dominant at home, boasting a 2-0 record and a 1.45 ERA to go along with 41 strikeouts in 37.1 innings at Modern Woodmen Park.

While Additon took home the Cardinals' Pitcher of the Month award, former Quad Cities outfielder Jon Jay earned the distinction of Player of the Month.

Jay, a 23-year-old out of the University of Miami, hit .385 with six homers, 22 runs scored, and 19 RBI in 26 June games for the Double-A Springfield Cardinals. The blistering month raised his batting average to .311 in 2008 with 11 home runs and 44 RBI in 79 games.

Originally selected by the Cardinals in the 2nd round of the 2006 draft, Jay made his pro debut in the Quad Cities later that summer. He hit .342 with three homers and 45 RBI in 60 Midwest League games before being limited to just 59 games during an injury-riddled 2007 campaign.
