Mallette earns ECHL Player of the Month honors

GREENVILLE, SC – The Greenville Grrrowl of the ECHL, proud affiliates of the Chicago Blackhawks and Edmonton Oilers have announced that CARL MALLETTE has been named the “ECHL CCM TACKS Player of the Month” for November. The Victoriaville, Quebec native has played in all 17 games with the Grrrowl this season, and leads the ECHL with 11 goals. Mallette is also second in the league in scoring with 21 points (11G, 10A) in the 17 games.
“I am very excited that this honor has come my way,” stated Mallette. “Our team started slowly, and have seen much more success as we improved and jelled. The success of the team has allowed me the opportunity to have a solid month in terms of points. I know that there are a long list of talented players in this league, and I feel fortunate to receive this prestigious award.”
For the month of November, Mallette totaled 16 points (8G, 8A) in 12 games, including two game-winning goals and a power-play goal. He had a four-point game (2G, 2A) against the South Carolina Stingrays in Charleston on November 5th, in a 7-1 Grrrowl win, and had 5 multi-point games during the stretch. Mallette was a fourth round pick of the Atlanta Thrashers (#107 overall) in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. During a stellar Junior Hockey career, the 23 year-old center tallied 100+ points in two seasons, and had career high 49 goals in the 1999-00 season. Carl played 73 regular season games in the ECHL last season, and totaled 71 points (28G, 43A), and added 8 points with the Roanoke Express during four playoff games.
In other news, TOMAS MICKA (6-3, 200lbs., forward) has been recalled by the Edmonton Road Runners (AHL). Micka played in 9 games with the Grrrowl, totaling 4 points (1G, 3A) and 2 penalty minutes.
The Grrrowl are on the road for two games this weekend in Gwinnett (12/3) and against the Stingrays in Charleston (12/4), and return to the BI-LO Center to face the Augusta Lynx on Sunday (12/5) at 3:05pm.
