Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

OMAHA – Veteran right-hander Doug Linton opened last season as a reliever for the Toronto Blue Jays and pitched well, posting a 3.00 ERA in seven appearances. However, his rocky start to the 2004 season continued Saturday night at Rosenblatt Stadium, as the Omaha Royals starter was hit hard again in a 7-2 loss to the New Orleans Zephyrs. A crowd of 3,266 fans turned out, although very few were left by the time the game was called by rain after six innings and a futile 45-minute wait for the storm to pass.

Linton (2-5) gave up all seven runs on 13 hits over five innings. New Orleans had a 3-2 lead entering the fifth, but broke open the contest by stroking seven hits and scoring four runs.

Five different Zephyrs had two hits apiece in the game, including Phil Hiatt who homered for the second straight night at Rosenblatt. John Buck also had a long ball among his two hits as the Zephyrs evened the series at a win apiece.

Rick Short's two-run homer in the second inning accounted for the only runs allowed by Chris Enochs (3-4), who worked around four hits and four walks to get the win. The 28-year old right-hander chalked up six strikeouts and retired the last ten Royals batters he faced.

Omaha's Jed Hansen was 0-for-2 with a walk, halting his hitting streak at nine games. Gookie Dawkins went 0-for-3 to snap a five-gamer.

Omaha (21-29) hosts New Orleans (23-27) in game 3 of the set Sunday at 1:35 p.m.: Z's knuckle baller Jared Fernandez (1-2, 4.04) vs. Royals RH Kris Wilson (2-6, 7.81). Family Fun Day is presented by Candlewood Suites, with clowns and face painting for kids before the game and all kids are invited to run the bases afterwards. The pre-game show airs at 1:15 p.m. on Fox Sports Radio 1490 and at www.Oroyals.com
