Nashville Sounds News Release

NASHVILLE -- Colorado Springs belted a pair of home runs in the top of the eleventh inning off Nashville reliever Frank Brooks to post a 5-2 victory over the homestanding Sounds in front of 8,814 fans on Saturday evening at Greer Stadium.

The loss, Nashville's fifth in extra innings this season, snapped a three-game win streak for the Sounds.

The Sounds struck first in the bottom of the second inning when Chris Truby, who had not started in a little over a week, hit an inning-opening, first-pitch shot off Colorado Springs starter Kip Bouknight to left-center that readily cleared the wall and gave the Sounds an early 1-0 lead. The roundtripper was Truby's seventh of the year.

Nashville added a second run in the inning when Andy Abad, who finished 3-for-5 to pace the Sounds offense in the losing effort, doubled to put another runner in scoring position with no outs, was sacrificed to third, then scored on a Bouknight wild pitch to make it a 2-0 game.

The Sky Sox knotted the contest with a pair of runs against Sounds starter Nelson Figueroa in the top of the sixth inning. Andy Tracy doubled in Erick Almonte, who had singled to get on base, to get within a run at 2-1. J.D. Closser followed with a single to score Tracy and knot the game at 2-2.

Neither team scored another run until the decisive eleventh when Closser drew a one-out walk before Jorge Piedra rocketed the first offering he saw from Brooks over the hot tub deck in right field for his fourth longball of the year and a 4-2 Sky Sox lead. Garrett Atkins added an insurance run shortly thereafter when he annihilated a Brooks pitch off the guitar-shaped scoreboard in left-center. The two home runs were the first that Brooks had given up all season in 24 2/3 innings pitched.

Atkins' home run would prove to be the final run of the night for either team as Scott Dohmann struck out Luke Allen, the potential tying run, in the bottom of the inning to give the Sky Sox a win in their first, and only, extra-inning contest of the year.

With the win, Colorado Springs reliever Marc Kroon (1-2) garnered his first win and Dohmann picked up his second save. Brooks (2-2) was charged with the loss for the Sounds.

With the four-game series tied at one apiece, right-hander Justin Reid (2-0, 4.15) takes the mound on Sunday evening for the Sounds in the teams' 6 p.m. meeting. He will take on Colorado Springs right-hander Denny Stark (4-2, 3.92).
