Edmonton Trappers News Release

Friday night's Pacific Coast League game at TELUS Field between the Edmonton Trappers and the Sacramento River Cats has been suspended, due to rain, in bottom of the fourth inning with the River Cats leading 4-3. The game will be resumed at 6:05 PM on Saturday night. The regularly scheduled game will follow directly after the conclusion of the suspended game and will be seven innings in length instead of the usual nine innings. Edmonton came into play on Friday night in second place in the North Division of the Pacific Coast League, 5 ½ games behind the Tacoma Rainiers. Edmonton and Sacramento will play a four-game series, which concludes on Monday. The Trappers will start an eight-game road trip in Las Vegas on Tuesday night.

Sacramento got to Trapper starter Josh Karp for a single run in the top of the first inning. Shortstop Mike Rouse singled with one out in the inning and advanced to second when left fielder Mike Edwards drew a walk. First baseman Graham Koonce grounded into a fielder's choice, erasing Edwards at second base, but Maicer Izturis' throw to first was wide allowing Rouse to scamper home with the first run of the game. First baseman Dan Johnson led off the second inning with a walk, advanced to third on a single by center fielder Mike Lockwood and scored on a sacrifice fly by second baseman Esteban German. Right fielder Nick Swisher drew a two-out walk in the third inning. Trapper center fielder Brandon Watson then dropped a line drive off the bat of Johnson, allowing Swisher to move to third. A walk to Mike Rivera loaded the bases for Lockwood, who singled into right field, scoring Swisher and Johnson to give Sacramento a four-run lead.

The Trappers mounted a comeback in the third inning with three runs off Sacramento starter Mario Ramos. Ron Calloway was hit by a pitch to open the frame. Luis Lopez singled to put runners on first and second. First baseman Jorge Toca doubled with one out, scoring Calloway with Edmonton's first run. With two down catcher Paul Hoover drew the Trappers to within one run of the River Cats with a double to left field that scored Lopez and Toca. Edmonton loaded the bases in the bottom of the fourth inning and chased Ramos before the game was halted.
