Trappers games suspended

May 29, 2004 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Edmonton Trappers News Release

Today's Pacific Coast League game between the Edmonton Trappers and the Sacramento River Cats, originally scheduled to begin at 6:05 PM, has been postponed due to rain. The game, which is the conclusion of Friday night's contest that was suspended in the fourth inning, will be made up as part of a doubleheader on Sunday, May 30. The suspended game will begin at 1:35 PM with the regularly scheduled game starting approximately 20 minutes after the conclusion of the first contest.

Sacramento led Friday night's game 4-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning when the game was suspended because of rain. Edmonton loaded the bases with one out in the inning. The game will continue from that point onward. The Trappers and River Cats have split the four games that they have played so far in 2004. Sacramento is the defending PCL Champion and swept the Trappers in three games in the Pacific Conference Final in last year's playoffs. The River Cats are currently tied for first with the Tucson Sidewinders in the South Division.

Edmonton enters play on Saturday night in second place in the North Division of the PCL, six games behind the Tacoma Rainiers. The Trappers have one of the best home records in the league at 15-8 (.652), including a 9-6 mark at TELUS Field. Edmonton and Sacramento will conclude this four-game set on Monday afternoon. The club will begin an eight-game road trip in Las Vegas against the 51s on Tuesday night.

Outfielder Ryan Church has had a great two-month run in his first exposure to the Triple-A level with the Trappers. He is currently fifth in the circuit with a .353 batting average and ranks seventh in on-base percentage at .429. Shortstop Maicer Izturis, who came over to the Expos in the same trade that brought Church to the organization, has reached base in 18 consecutive games, batting .333 (23-for-69) with a .459 on-base percentage during that span.
