Tucson Sidewinders News Release
The Tucson Sidewinders defeated the Portland Beavers 4-2 in front of 5,187 fans. Winning pitcher Jim Parque went 6 innings, allowing 2 ER on 7 hits. He improved his record to 2-1 on the season. RHP Steve Watkins (0-1), despite striking out 10 in his 2004 Portland debut, took the loss going 5 innings, giving up 3 runs on 6 hits.
CF Julio Ramirez went 2-3, with 3 runs and a 3B. LF Noochie Varner led the Sidewinders with3 hits and also added an RBI. The bullpen for Tucson blanked the Beavers the final 3 innings. RHP Greg Aquino, LHP Shane Nance, and RHP Brandon Villafuerte, who picked up the save, allowed only 2 batters to reach base.
For Portland, C Yamid Haad hit his 5th home run of the year with a 2-run shot in the 2nd. He would later add another hit and finish 2-4. LF Alex Fernandez also had 2 hits on the night for the Beavers.
The win improved the Sidewinders to 28-20, while the loss dropped the Beavers to 22-27. The game was complete in 2:37. Tomorrow's probables will feature RHP Marty McLeary (0-1, 4.26) for P ortland facing Tucson's RHP Edgar Gonzalez (2-5, 6.19). Game time is 6:30 PM.
