Zapolski Earns ECHL All-Star Game MVP

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 20 seasons of hockey in the Lowcountry and proud ECHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL), announced that goaltender Ryan Zapolski was named the ECHL All-Star Game Most Valuable Player last night during the 2013 ECHL All-Star Game in Loveland, Colorado. The ECHL All-Stars defeated the Colorado Eagles 7-3.

Zapolski, 26, stopped all 17 shots he faced in the second period and became the fourth goaltender to earn ECHL All-Star Game Most Valuable Player honors joining former Stingray Cory Cadden (1994), Frank Doyle (2005) and Adam Berkhoel (2007).

The Erie, Pennsylvania, native currently leads the ECHL with a 1.91 goals-against average and .929 save percentage and is tied for the lead with three shutouts. In 19 appearances with the Stingrays this season, Zaploski registered a 1.90 GAA, .930 save percentage and a record of 11-8-0. Prior to turning pro, he skated for four seasons at Mercyhurst College appearing in 109 games going 48-43-11 with eight shutouts, a 2.77 goals-against average and a save percentage of .920.
