Defenseman Colby Cohen Assigned by Providence

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 20 seasons of hockey in the Lowcountry and proud ECHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL), announced today that defenseman Colby Cohen as been assigned to the team by the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Cohen, 23, dressed in 120 games with the Bruins (AHL) over the last three seasons totaling five goals and 26 assists for 31 points. From 2009-11, the Villanova, Pennsylvania, native was a member of the Colorado Avalanche organization appearing in 17 games with their AHL affiliate, the Lake Erie Monsters, netting two points (one goal, one assist). A second-round draft pick of the Avalanche in 2007 (45th overall), Cohen skated in three games with the NHL club in 2010-11 adding no points and four penalty minutes.

Prior to turning pro, the 6-for-3, 215-pound defenseman attended Boston University for three seasons picking up 78 points (25 goals, 53 assists) in 118 contests and helped the Terriers capture the NCAA Championship in 2009.
