Zach Stewart Has Solid Start in Road Trip Opener, But Fisher Cats Fall

Akron, OH- Zach Stewart, Trystan Magnuson and Tim Collins combined to hold Akron in check through eight innings, but the Aeros rallied for their eighth straight win, beating the Fisher Cats 4-3 on Tuesday night at Canal Park.

Lonnie Chisenhall followed a Cord Phelps single with a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth off losing pitcher Danny Farquhar (0-2) to give Akron the win. It was the first lead of the night for the Aeros.

The Fisher Cats (36-23) opened the scoring in the top of the third inning, benefitting from three Akron errors. Brian Jeroloman reached on an error and Danny Perales grounded into a fielders choice. Perales then stole second base and moved to third when the throw went into centerfield. After Callix Crabbe walked, Eric Thames hit a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0. Shawn Bowman then reached on a two-base error on a grounder to third scoring Crabbe after he had stolen second. Adam Loewen delivered the only Fisher Cats hit of the inning, a single to center scoring Bowman to make it 3-0.

Akron (28-30) scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth inning after two were out. Beau Mills doubled and scored when Carlos Rivero reached on an error on a hot shot off the glove of SS Manny Mayorson. John Drennen walked and Jerad Head singled in Rivero to make it 3-2 and end the night for Fisher Cats starter Zach Stewart.

Stewart worked 5.2 innings, allowing seven hits and two runs (both unearned). He walked three and struck out four.

Trystan Magnuson followed with his 16th consecutive scoreless relief outing, working two innings. Tim Collins came on to strike out Tim Fedroff with two on to end the eighth with the Fisher Cats still in front 3-2.

New Hampshire threatened in the top of the ninth when Manny Mayorson (2-for-4) reached on an infield single and Brian Jeroloman walked, but Chen-Chang Lee (3-3) got Danny Perales and Callix Crabbe to end the frame. Akron starter Alex White, the Indians top pick in the 2009 draft, worked six innings allowing one hit and three runs (all unearned). He walked five and struck out two. Omar Aguilar followed with two innings of scoreless relief. The Fisher Cats continue the series at Canal Park against the Aeros on Wednesday night at 7:05pm. New Hampshire sends left-hander Luis Perez (5-5, 5.47) to the mound to face Akron left-hander Scott Barnes (1-5, 7.17). Fisher Cats Pre-Game begins at 6:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network with Bob Lipman. The Fisher Cats return to Merchantsauto.com Stadium to open a three-game series against the Akron Aeros, Double-A affiliate of the Cleveland Indians, on Tuesday, June 15, at 7:05pm.
