Thunder Win Third Straight

Reading, PA- With 14 hits and six solid innings from RHP David Phelps, the Thunder won their third straight game, defeating the Reading Phillies on Tuesday night at First Energy Stadium. With the win, Trenton now improves to 34-23 on the year.

The Thunder touched up RHP Josh Fogg (0-1) in the first three innings, scoring four runs on eight hits, including a two-run double by Justin Christian. Jorge Vazquez also hit a run-scoring double in the third. Fogg would be chased after 3 2/3 innings.

RHP David Phelps (4-0), who hadn't won a game since May 7, pitched six strong innings, and allowed just one run on five hits and struck out eight. He set down the last ten batters he faced.

A solo home run from Tagg Bozied off Eric Wordekemper in the eighth inning kept Reading alive as it cut Trenton's lead in half, 4-2. However, the Thunder scored four runs on four hits in the top of the ninth inning to go up 8-2. Justin Snyder's two-run single capped off the scoring. Wordekemper retired the side in order in the bottom of the ninth inning.

For Trenton, Brandon Laird, Jorge Vazquez and Daniel Brewer went a combined 8-for-13 with three doubles.

The Thunder and R-Phillies continue their series on Wednesday night at 7:05 PM. LHP Wilkin de la Rosa takes the ball for Trenton, while Reading goes with LHP Yohan Flande.
