February 5, 2016 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Des Moines Buccaneers News Release
Des Moines Buccaneer forward Zach Jordan has committed to playing hockey for the University of Nebraska Omaha.
Jordan will play for UNO head coach Dean Blais and make his new home Baxter Arena, which just opened in the fall of 2015. UNO has had a lot of recent success as they made their first Frozen Four appearance in 2015 and this season climbed as high as #2 in the USCHO.com rankings. "They're a great team, I'm really comfortable with the rink, I know a lot of guys on the team, I've played in Omaha before, I just think it'll be a good fit for me overall," explained Jordan. Academics was also on Jordan's mind when making the decision. "They've also got a good schooling program for me to go into. "
The recent success UNO is enjoying is something that Jordan not only sees in the current team but into the future as well. "The coaches are really making a big push for a National Championship and that's another big reason I want to go because I want to win a National Championship," said Jordan. When asked if it may be the best time in school history to be a part of UNO hockey, Jordan didn't hesitate to answer "Absolutely."
Jordan currently leads the Des Moines Buccaneers in goals with 18 and his 25 points are not only second on the team but in just 37 games this season Jordan has eclipsed the total number of USHL points he had coming into this season, as he had tallied 18 points in 74 games in the previous two seasons.
It will not be the first time that Zach has found himself residing in Omaha as he played 41 games for the Omaha Lancers over the 2013-2014 and 2014-2015 seasons. UNO is also where former Buccaneer forward Ryan Galt is now playing.
