Buccaneers Call up Two Affiliates
February 5, 2016 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Des Moines Buccaneers News Release
The Des Moines Buccaneers have called up a couple of affiliate players to help them out this weekend against Waterloo and Sioux Falls.
Kobe Roth, a forward from Warroad, Minnesota, has been playing for the Minnesota Wilderness of the NAHL throughout the season. In 35 games for the Wilderness Roth has 7 goals and 20 points, but Buccaneers Assistant Coach Nate Weossner believes Roth brings a lot more than just the ability to score points to the USHL. "This kid's a smart hockey player. He was a prolific scorer in Minnesota High School League Hockey," points out Weossner. "He's gonna bring some hockey sense and skill to our group, that's for sure." Roth's season last year was cut short due to an injury as he competed in just 10 regular season games, but in the 2013-2014 season he scored 40 goals and 85 points for Warroad High School.
Christopher Lipe has also been called up for USHL action. Lipe is a defenseman who played for the Buccaneers in the preseason and in 34 games with Fox Motors U16 and U18 teams he has registered 4 goals and 26 points this season. "Chris Lipe has played with us in the preseason and was at our camp and is on our affiliate list because we know he's a good hockey player," Weossner praised. "Travis Richards, who runs the Fox Motors Hockey Club, thinks highly of him and Travis knows d-men, knows how to produce them, know how to grow them and Lipe is one of his protoges so to speak. He's going to be a good player."
Roth is 5'7", 157 lbs, and the University of Minnesota-Duluth commit will wear #11 for the Buccaneers. Lipe stands 6'1", 185 lbs, and will wear #5 after having previously worn #11 in the preseason.
