Caps Barge into Stable for Final Tangle with Cedar Rapids
February 5, 2016 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Madison Capitols News Release
Cedar Rapids, IA - The Madison Capitols (15-19-2-2) begin a weekend trek through Iowa as they enter The Stable to face the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders (25-10-2-1) for the teams' final meeting this season. Puck drop is set for just after 7 p.m.
Home ice has been crucial in the season series between the Caps and Riders in 2015-16, as the hosting squad has won four of the first five meetings in the season series. The Capitols, who won the last matchup at the Alliant Energy Center by a final score of 4-2 on Jan. 17, have yet to win at The Stable in 2015-16.
The RoughRiders have dominated on their home ice against the Capitols and all other comers this season, outscoring Madison 9-2 in two victories at home while compiling a 15-6-1-0 record on their ice, the most wins by any USHL team on their home rink this season.
An already prolific offense for Cedar Rapids received another boost this week with the acquisition of former Chicago forward Karch Bachman, who put up a hat trick against the Capitols just seven nights ago at the Fox Valley Ice Arena.
The Capitols is hoping that last Sunday's two-goal performance from Alex Payusov is the start of a personal hot streak for the UCONN commit. After putting up 11 goals in his first three months with the Capitols, his two-goal performance marked his first points since New Year's Eve.
Sam McCormick continues to lead the Capitols offense by example, as his 30 points are a team-high figure, and the Ohio State commit has already set his career-best in goals with 16.
Between the pipes, both Ryan Edquist and Garrett Metcalf will look to shake off performances last weekend that resulted in their removal from each game. Metcalf was very strong in relief on Saturday in Lincoln, turning away 18 of 19 shots after entering for Edquist.
The Capitols complete their state tour of Iowa on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. for their lone trip to Young Arena to take on the Waterloo Black Hawks.
The Capitols briefly return to Madison on Wednesday, Feb. 10 for a battle with the Muskegon Lumberjacks at Bob Suter's Capitol Ice Arena (2616 Pleasant View Rd, Middleton). This venue change is for Feb. 10 only, and fans with tickets marked for the Alliant Energy Center can use those to enter at Capitol Ice Arena.
General admission tickets for Wednesday's game are $10 apiece, and groups of 10 or more can call (608) 257-CAPS (2277) to reserve $8 group rate tickets (minimum 10 people).
