Young named Topps SL Player of the Month

MARIETTA, GA - For the second consecutive month, Montgomery Biscuits' outfielder Delmon Young was named the Topps Southern League Player of the Month. The Topps Company of New York, in conjunction with Minor League Baseball, presents the award each month to the top performer in each of the 10 full-season leagues.

Young, the first overall pick in the 2003 draft, hit .336 with eight home runs and 27 RBI in 28 games during the month of June. During the month, Young ranked among the league leaders in home runs (8, tied for first in SL), RBI (27, first in SL), hits (36, tied for first in SL), slugging percentage (.636, second in SL), extra-base hits (14, second in SL) and runs scored (20, third in SL). For the season, the outfielder ranks fourth in batting average (.332), first in home runs (19), first in RBI (70), fourth in stolen bases (24), first in hits (105), second in slugging percentage (.576) and tied for second in runs scored (58). Baseball America rated Young the top prospect in the Devil Rays' organization and the number three prospect in all of professional baseball. He resides in Camarillo, CA.
