Zebulon, NC --- Pitching for the first time in over a month, Nic Ungs worked five scoreless innings as Carolina defeated Chattanooga 3-1 at Five County Stadium on Tuesday night at Five County Stadium.

Ungs (W, 3-4), who went on the disabled list after a 1 2/3 inning start against the Lookouts on June 3rd, allowed three singles over his stint, winning his third game of the season. Three Mudcats relievers combined for the final four innings, with Mike Flannery (S, 8) pitching the ninth for the save.

Carolina (48-32, 7-5) remained in a first-place tie with West Tenn thanks to the series-evening victory. The Mudcats scored twice in the second against Ben Kozlowski (L, 4-3) thanks to a grounder by Drew Niles and a wild pitch which scored Niles with two outs. Another Kozlowski wild pitch brought in Chris Bass from third in the fifth inning.

The Mudcats had just four hits in the game, including Jason Hill's 20th double of the season. Three of Carolina's hits happened in the second inning.

The series continues Wednesday night with Luke Lockwood (2-4, 4.09) scheduled to start against Andy Van Hekken (1-0, 3.27) at 7:15 PM ET at Five County.
