Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY - The Montgomery Biscuits beat the Mississippi Braves 10-2 on the strength of Shawn Riggans' bat and Jason Cromer's arm.
The Biscuits got things started in the first inning for the second night in a row. Wes Bankston hit a two-run double and Riggans drove in Bankston with an RBI double while Chairon Isenia plated Riggans with an RBI single.
Riggans hit two home runs in the contest to give him six for the year. He was 3-4 with four RBIs and three runs scored in his first multi-homer game of the season. He joins Delmon Young as the only Biscuit to enjoy multi-homer games this season.
Biscuits starter Jason Cromer bounced back from a rough outing in his last start to pitch seven solid innings, allowing only two runs on seven hits while striking out four. Cromer improved to 4-4 on the season.
The Biscuits put the game out of reach in the seventh inning off Braves reliever Casey DeHart. Shawn Riggans hit his second home run, a two-run shot, while Matthew Maniscalco, Rico Washington and Bankston each drove in runs.
Josh Parker pitched a scoreless ninth for his second save of the season.
Braves starter Chuck James struggled early and often, lasting six innings but allowing five runs on five hits and one walk while striking out four. James suffered his first loss of the season, falling to 5-1.
Jeff Francoeur drove in the Braves first two runs with a sacrifice fly in the third and an RBI double in the fifth.
Wednesday, the Biscuits and the Braves will face off in the third game of this four-game series at 7:05 at Riverwalk Stadium. Biscuits righty Scott Autrey (3-9, 5.34) will take the mound. The Braves will start righty Ryan Basner (1-6, 3.78).
