MOBILE, Ala. - BayBears third baseman Corey Smith threw out Tydus Meadows while lying on his back, preventing the go-ahead run from scoring in the fifth inning prior to rain from Tropical Storm Cindy halting the game three pitches into the sixth inning Tuesday at Hank Aaron Stadium.

The game entered a rain delay with the score tied, 4-4, and a 2-1 count to Joel Guzman in the top of the sixth inning with BayBears reliever Angel Tovar just coming on in relief.

The suspended game is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Wednesday and must be completed to nine innings. It will be followed by a seven-inning second game, weather permitting.

Delwyn Young doubled home two runs in the third inning, pulling the Suns to within 3-2. On the play, he was thrown out at third trying to stretch a double. Young hit two of four doubles smacked against BayBears starter Travis Chick, who was relieved after five innings by Tovar. Tydus Meadows and James Loney each had sacrifice flies, driving in the Suns' third and fourth runs, respectively.

Justin Orenduff started for the Suns and walked four. He gave up four runs in five innings and was still in the ballgame when the delay began. Smith hit a line drive home run to left field off Orenduff in the third, giving the BayBears a 4-3 lead. Many of the outs were hit hard off Orenduff, who also allowed RBI singles to Smith and Ronnie Merrill.

In the second game, right-hander Joel Hanrahan (4-4, 5.63 ERA) is scheduled to oppose Mobile righty Jose Oyervidez (3-6, 4.45) as the Suns (44-38, 6-6 second half) face the BayBears (32-50, 4-8) in the third game of a four-game series.

SUNS SPOTS: The Suns received OF Justin Ruggiano from Class A-Advanced Vero Beach. Ruggiano batted .307 with nine home runs, 35 RBI and 16 stolen bases.
