Young named Player of Month for second straight month

MONTGOMERY - The Southern League announced today that Montgomery Biscuits right-fielder Delmon Young has been named the Topps Southern League Player of the Month for June.

Young, who also earned the award for the month of May, hit . 336 (36-107) with 8 home runs, 27 RBIs and 4 stolen bases in June. He led the league in RBIs and was tied for first in the league in home runs and hits (36) during the month. He also ranked second in the league in slugging percentage (.636) as well as extra-base hits (14) and was third in runs scored (20).

Young was named to the Minor League Baseball All-Star Futures game and the Southern League All-Star game over the month.

The first overall pick in the 2003 draft is hitting .332 (105-for-316) with 19 home runs and 70 RBIs in 80 games for the Biscuits this season. He leads the league in home runs, RBIs, hits (105), is second with a .576 slugging percentage, is tied for second with 58 runs scored, is fourth in batting average and stolen bases (24). Young has hit in 52 of his last 60 games, dating back to April 28.
