You Decide the Wizards Player of the Year

Fort Wayne, IN - The Fort Wayne Wizards and Physicians Health Plan have teamed up for the 2007 PHP Wizards Player of the Year award. The PHP Wizards Player of the Year award is an extension of the daily Physicians Health Plan Player of the Game which is selected after each Fort Wayne game by radio broadcaster Mike Maahs.

Voting for the Wizards Player of the Year award will take place during the Wizards next five home games - Saturday, August 18; Sunday, August 19; Friday, August 24; Saturday, August 25 and Sunday, August 26 - with the winner determined during a post-game ceremony on Monday, August 27.

Fans are also invited to vote for the Wizards Player of the Year on the Wizards website at fortwaynewizards.com.

Five players, current and past on the 2007 team, were selected among the more than 40 players that have donned a Fort Wayne uniform this season.

-- Outfielder Javis Diaz currently leads the team with a .281 average, 57 runs scored and 25 stolen bases.

-- Outfielder Cedric Hunter is second on the team with a .280 average and 48 runs scored, while leading the team with 47 runs batted in.

-- Left-hander Nathan Culp, who has been promoted to the Lake Elsinore Storm, still is the team leader with eight wins. Culp was 8-3 with a 3.16 earned run average and 54 strikeouts in 14 starts.

-- Right-handed reliever R.J. Rodriguez, who has also been called up to the Storm, led the Wizards with 18 saves in 20 chances. He was 3-2 with a 4.11 ERA in 46 relief appearances.

-- Right-hander Rolando Valdez has been with the team all season and is 2-3 with a 2.77 ERA. In 48 appearances and 48.2 innings, he has struck out 42 and not allowed a home run all season.

Physicians Health Plan of Northern Indiana was founded in 1983 and is a physician-sponsored, non-profit health organization, serving to provide quality, affordable healthcare. The program is sponsored and overseen by doctors and business leaders in the Northern Indiana area.
