Lansing Lugnuts News Release

Beloit, Wis. - For the second straight day, the Lansing Lugnuts routed the home-standing Beloit Snappers, this time by a score of 9-4 at Pohlman Field on Monday night.

The Lugnuts were held hitless until the fourth inning, when Travis Snider blasted a two-run homer to right-center field to put Lansing ahead 2-0. It was Snider's second homer in as many days and his 10th this season.

Matt Liuzza followed that later in the frame with a solo shot of his own to right-center that expanded the lead to 3-0. The homer marked the 11th dinger this year for Liuzza, which leads the Lugnuts.

Lansing's advantage ballooned to 8-0 in the fifth when it sent 10 batters to the plate. The Lugnuts loaded the bases with one out when Sean Shoffit smoked a single into right field that scored Scott Campbell to make it 4-0. After Matt Liuzza drew a walk that brought home another run, Matt Lane laced a two-run single into center field to push the lead to 7-0. The inning was capped off on a Jonathan Baksh RBI groundout that gave the Lugnuts an 8-0 lead.

Nate Starner (10-9) took it away from there for Lansing, as he threw five scoreless innings en route to picking up his team leading 10th win of the season. He allowed just four hits while striking out six batters.

The Lugnuts held an 8-2 lead in the eighth when Kevin Nelson blasted his first homer of the year, a solo shot to left field that finished the scoring at 9-2.

Lansing (63-56, 28-22) and Beloit (70-49, 26-23) will wrap up the series on Tuesday night. Lansing will send Graham Godfrey (6-6, 4.17) to the hill. The Snappers have yet to name a starting pitcher. First pitch is scheduled for 8:00 p.m.
