GRAND CHUTE, WI -- Charlie Furbush struck out ten Wisconsin Timber Rattlers to lead the West Michigan Whitecaps to a 4-2 victory Monday night on Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. Brennan Boesch and Ryan Strieby homered to pace the Whitecap offense. Furbush is 3-0 on the season after his strong seven inning performance.

Midwest League stolen base leader Gorkys Hernandez set up West Michigan's first run. He singled with one out in the second and stole second for his 47th steal of the year. After a walk, Michael Bertram singled to drive in Hernandez for a 1-0 Whitecap lead.

Boesch and Strieby hit solo homers in the top of the fourth inning to give West Michigan (71-49 overall, 33-17 second half) a three run cushion.

Alex Liddi got the Rattlers (42-75, 20-29) on the scoreboard with a long home run to left field in the bottom of the fourth. A two-out RBI single by Jamie McOwen got the Rattlers to within 3-2. Wisconsin loaded the bases on an infield single by Juan Beltran, but would not score again in the inning or in the rest of the game.

Furbush allowed five hits and did not walk a batter in his fourth start for the Whitecaps and his eighth pro start. The 4th round pick of the Detroit Tigers out of LSU in the 2007 draft matched his career high for K's with his ten on Monday night. Furbush also struck out ten in a Gulf Coast League game against the Blue Jays on July 10.

West Michigan tacked on a run in the top of the eighth. Audy Ciriaco tripled off the left field wall and scored on a wild pitch by reliever Harold Williams

Brett Jensen closed out the game with a perfect ninth inning for his 22nd save of the season.

The final game of the series between the Rattlers and the Whitecaps is Tuesday night. Keith Renaud (2-0, 3.36) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. Jonah Nickerson (11-6, 3.65) is set to start for West Michigan. Game time is 7:05pm.
