Yannick Weber Named To 2008-2009 All-Rookie Team

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The American Hockey League announced today that Hamilton Bulldogs defenceman Yannick Weber has been named to the 2008-2009 AHL All-Rookie Team. The team consists of one goaltender, two defencemen and three forwards and was voted by AHL coaches, players and media in each of the 29 member cities.

Weber, 20, leads all Bulldogs defencemen in points with 41 (14 goals, 27 assists) and the 5-foot-10, 195-pound defenceman's 14 goals are second among all AHL blueliners. The native of Morges, Switzerland participated in the 2009 AHL All-Star Classic and made his NHL debut with the Montreal Canadiens on January 8th, 2009. Montreal's 3rd round, 73rd overall selection in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft reached the Memorial Cup final with the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League last season and also represented his native Switzerland at the 2008 World Junior Championships.

Weber is the Bulldogs' fourth player and third defenceman named to the AHL All-Rookie Team in the franchise's 13 year history. Defenceman Craig Millar was named to the team in the 1996-1997 season, defenceman Mike Komisarek in the 2002-2003 season and goaltender Jaroslav Halak in the 2006-2007 season.

The 2008-2009 AHL All-Rookie Team also includes Bridgeport Sound Tigers goaltender Nathan Lawson, Binghamton Senators defenceman Mattias Karlsson, Grand Rapids Griffins forward Justin Abdelkader, and Portland Pirates forwards Nathan Gerbe and Tim Kennedy.

Each All-Rookie Team member will receive a custom designed crystal award in recognition of his selection to the 2008-2009 AHL All-Rookie Team.

The Hamilton Bulldogs return to Copps Coliseum on Friday, April 3rd for a 7:30 p.m. game with the Grand Rapids Griffins. The game will be broadcast LIVE on Cable 14.
