Adirondack Phantoms News Release
PHILADELPHIA - David Laliberte had a hat trick and an assist for a four-point night, while linemates Jonathan Matsumoto and Patrick Maroon were each plus-4 in a 6-3 win over the Albany River Rats on Wednesday night at the Wachovia Spectrum. The win, coupled with Binghamton's shootout loss to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, puts the Phantoms three points back of the Senators in the East Division playoff race with a game in hand.
Things did not start well for the Phantoms, as the River Rats raced out to a 3-1 first period lead. Brad Herauf started the scoring just 3:05 in, but Sean Curry tied it up with a bouncing shot that eluded Daniel Manzato near the halfway point, at 10:49.
Albany answered less than a minute later with a goal from Jerome Samson, and jumped ahead by a pair when Harrison Reed scored with just under four minutes left in the period. The Rats headed into the locker room with a 3-1 lead and a 16-6 shot advantage.
But the Phantoms didn't' wait long to start charging back. Laliberte scored his first just 1:56 into the second period and equalized the game with his second 15 minutes later, Jared Ross then posted the eventual game-winner with 1:03 left in the second period, giving Philadelphia a 4-3 second intermission advantage.
Laliberte completed his hat trick just past the halfway point of the third, and Matsumoto jumped on the board with a goal that came with 1:59 remaining. Matsumoto finished with a goal and three assists to go along with his plus-4 rating, while Maroon contribured a pair of assists.
Scott Munroe picked up the win with 35 saves on 38 Albany bids, while Manzato took the loss with 24 stops on 30 shots.
Philadelphia now heads to Norfolk for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday nights, and then return home to play the Admirals on Sunday when the Phantoms induct Peter White into the Phantoms Hall of Fame. The first 5,000 fans will receive a vial of Spectrum ice courtesy of Wachovia.
There are just two regular season games remaining at the Wachovia Spectrum. Adult tickets are just $10 and kids tickets just $5 for the remainder of the 2008-09 season. Tickets are going fast for the final game on Friday, April 10 against the Hershey Bears. Tickets are available through ComcastTIX at 1-800-298-4200, at the Wachovia Complex box office or online at Phantomshockey.com.
