AHL Rockford IceHogs

With Two Weeks Left, Playoff Berth Getting Closer

April 1, 2009 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rockford IceHogs News Release

Cleveland, Ohio-Teams at the top of the AHL standings haven't been the issue for the Rockford IceHogs lately, it's the teams in the middle or bottom that have reeked havoc on the Hogs. Tonight Rockford travels to Cleveland to take on the Lake Erie Monsters at 6 p.m. at the Quicken Loans Arena.

Lake Erie topped Rockford 3-1 in the teams only other meeting this season on Feb 20 at the Rockford MetroCentre. The Monsters currently occupy the North Division's sixth spot and are one loss away from being eliminated from the Calder Cup Playoffs.

As for the IceHogs, they enter play tonight locked into the West Division's fourth spot. With five games to play in the 2008-09 regular season, Rockford holds a three point edge over the Chicago Wolves and Iowa Chops for the final playoff spot in the division.

Rockford's magic number to clinch a playoff spot is 10 points. Any combination of IceHogs points gained and Wolves points lost reduce the magic number. Both Rockford and Chicago have a game in hand on the Chops.

The road team has won each of the first five games in the all-time season series between the Hogs and Monsters. Rockford topped the Monsters twice last season at the "Q" in Cleveland in their last visit to Lake Erie.

To listen to tonight's game tune into 1330 AM, WNTA, 1380 AM, WTJK or on-line on www.icehogs.com The game can also be viewed on the Web on www.icehogs.com through the AHL Live for just $7 or at SportsPage in Rockford.

Next Home Game: Saturday, April 4 vs. Milwaukee Admirals. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The Annual Jersey Auction game is finally here as the IceHogs jump into "The Dark Hammy" jerseys to benefit the IceHogs Charitable Foundation. The first 2,000 fans will pick up a commemorative t-shirt courtesy of Saturn, Pepsi, 13 WREX and MedicineMan. Also, don't miss the Stanley Cup as hockey's most coveted trophy makes its first visit to the Rockford MetroCentre.
