
Wolf Pack Tops Pirates 5-3

Hartford, CT - The Hartford Wolf Pack took a 5-3 win over the Pirates thanks to 32 saves on 35 shots from Matt Zaba. Marek Zagrapan had a goal and an assist for the Pirates.
Hartford took an early lead when Vladimir Denisov located a rebound in the slot and slammed it home 1:41 into the first period for his fourth goal of the season. Jordan Owens and Brock McBride picked up the assists. A few minutes later, Brian Fahey took a slap shot from the point and Brodie Dupont tipped it home to make it a 2-0 Hartford lead. Bobby Sanguinetti and Fahey picked up assists on DuPont's 15th of the year at the 7:00 mark of the first period. Hartford took a 2-0 lead into the second period.
Early in the second, Mark Bell took a feed on a two on one from Artem Anisimov and blasted it home for a shorthanded goal 3:00 into the second period. Portland was behind 3-0 but didn't go away, as Marek Zagrapan got a turnover in the offensive zone and skated in on Zaba. Zagrapan deked him and slid the puck home on the backhand for his 20th goal of the season at 6:42 of the second. Just under ten minutes later, Colin Murphy cut in front of the net on a power play and scored his 11th goal of the season. Marek Zagrapan and Marc-Andre Gragnani got the assists and Portland cut it to a 3-2 deficit heading into the third period.
In the third period, Hartford cranked up the energy again and stretched the lead as Jordan Owens picked up his 11th goal of the season from Brock McBride and Tommy Pyatt at 4:45 of the third. Hartford stretched its lead to 5-2 win Devin DiDiomete scored at 5:25 of the third, picking up his fourth goal of the year from David Stich and Mark Bell. The Pirates added a late goal from Tim Kennedy to cut it to 5-3. Mike Kostka picked up an assist along with Dennis Persson on Kennedy's 17th. Pirates goaltender Jhonas Enroth made 26 saves on 31 shots and took the loss. Matt Zaba stopped 32 of 35 shots and got the win.
