Yankees Drop Another Close One at Home, 4-3

After going 4-2 on a their first road trip of the season, the Staten Island Yankees (5-5) dropped another close contest at Richmond County Bank Ballpark to the State College Spikes (4-5), 4-3.

The Spikes got all the runs they needed in the top of the fourth inning. Staten Island starter Yoel Espinal (1-1), walked Thomas Spitz. Espinal then hit Leobaldo Pina and walked Casey Grayson to load the bases for Ronnierd Garcia. Garcia put State College on the board with a two-RBI single to right field. Jesse Jenner followed suit later in the inning, singling to left field to bring home Grayson. After Espinal walked R. J. Dennard to load the bases, Kolton Mahoney came into the game, walking Craig Aiken to bring home the fourth and final run for State College.

Staten Island responded in the bottom half of the inning as Drew Bridges hit his first home run of the season with a bomb to right field bringing the score to 4-1 in favor of the Spikes.

The Baby Bombers threatened again in the bottom of the seventh. Ryan Krill drew a walk from Max Almonte, followed by a single by Kevin Alexander. Brennan Leitao replaced Almonte, walking Jeff Hendrix, Kyle Holder and Griffin Gordon to bring home two runs, bringing the game to its final score of 4-3.

The Baby Bombers aim to get back on track Monday at 7 p.m. against the Spikes for Big Money Monday.
