Xplosion down Colonels, 129-117, for ninth win in last 11 games

PITTSBURGH, JAN. 24, 2006 -- Sparked by Coleco Buie's 29 points and 9 assists, the Pittsburgh Xplosion defeated the visiting Kentucky Colonels 129-117 in ABA action Tuesday night at Mellon Arena. Center Armon Gilliam added 26 points and 9 rebounds for the Xplosion and ABA rookie James Sutton Jr. of McKeesport, Pa., contributed 16 points, 13 rebounds and 3 blocked shots. Pittsburgh earned its ninth victory in the last 11 games to improve its ABA record to 14-9.

D.A. Harvey led the Colonels with 29 points and 9 rebounds, Tony Weeden scored 28 and Donnie Jackson added 18 points. The Xplosion's Darius Mattear scored 18 points. Pittsburgh jumped out to a 70-45 halftime lead and never trailed the Colonels, who outscored Pittsburgh 72-59 in the second half to narrow the Xplosion's final margin of victory.

Celebrities at the Xplosion game included Louis Lipps, the two-time Pro Bowl wide receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and Roger Kingdom, the legendary track and field star and two-time Olympic gold medalist.

The Xplosion remain in second place in the ABA's Freddie Lewis Division, trailing the Indiana Alley Cats, the league's top team. The Xplosion are contenders for an ABA playoff berth in the team's first season.
