Hurricanes community initiatives announced

Lake Charles, LA. The ABA Lake Charles Hurricanes, a 2006 expansion team, presents the "Remember the ABA" traveling school exhibit, a 4 x 8 tabletop exhibit displaying the history of the original ABA league and basketball. According to MonaLisa Drake, CEO, "The purpose of this very special exhibit is to educate youth about a league many don't know about and tell some interesting ABA facts that are a big part of the NBA today. For example, some youth don't know that four of the existing NBA teams came from the original ABA league. It will be fun as well as educational. The school schedule is as follows in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

Jan 30 - A.M Barbe High School
Feb 6 - Washington/Marion High School
Feb 13 - St. Louis High School
Feb 20 - LaGrange High School
Feb 27 - Iowa High School
Mar 6 - Lake Charles/Boston High

Other scheduled events include Jan 30 a Basketball Coaches Mixer with boys and girls basketball coaches, refs and officials for an evening of networking and basketball talk at Peking Garden, 2433 Broad Street at 7pm. On Saturday Mar 4, there will be a Nutrition and Fitness Awareness 101, a five hour course on nutrition and fitness where you can learn about carbs, fats, proteins, calories and much more. It will be free for adults and held at Recreation District 1 Multipurpose Center, 1221 Sampson Street, in Westlake from 9am-2pm. Another initiative is Sat, Apr 1 - GoGirlGo, a program for third to eighth grade girl athletes thatg offers an upbeat message along with practical tips and advice for girls on how to cope with the pressures and experiences going on in their lives. In partnership with the Women in Sports Foundation and The Lela Foundation. It's free and will be at the Recreation District 1 - Multipurpose Center, 1221 Sampson Street in Westlake also, from 9am to 12n.
