THE LEADOFF: West Virginia knocked off Delmarva 10-6 on Tuesday evening. The Shorebirds held a 1-0 lead after three outs, but the Power plated two on three hits in the bottom of the first. West Virginia added two in the second and held that 4-1 lead through five complete. Delmarva scored three in the top of the sixth against Alex McRae. Kevin Newman brought home Chase Simpson on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the sixth to get the lead right back. After Cameron Kneeland's two-run home run off Julio Vivas in the seventh gave the Birds a 6-5 edge, the Power tallied four runs on four hits in the home half of the inning for a 9-6 lead. Michael Suchy's eighth inning solo home run capped the 15-hit night for West Virginia. Vivas was charged with a blown save but vultured the win. Sam Street pitched the final two innings for his sixth save.
WHAT A DIFFERENCE THE DAY MAKES: West Virginia is 18-12 in day games this season. Five of the club's final 25 games this year are schedule to begin in the afternoon.
COME FLY AWAY: West Virginia leads the all-time series against Delmarva 71-62 heading into today's season-series finale. The Power are 11-3 against the Shorebirds in 2015 after losing the 2014 set 7-6. West Virginia holds a 44-31 record at Appalachian Power Park against the Delmarva.
NINE PLUS ONE: Jordan Luplow extended his hitting streak to ten straight with two hits on Tuesday. The third baseman has a .390 average since August 2 with 16 hits over 41 at bats. Luplow's current streak is his longest this year and matches the longest of his young career. He hit safely in ten straight with the Jamestown Jammers last year from July 7 through 20 (13 for 41- .317 average).
CLEAN SWEEP: West Virginia heads into play today seeking its third series sweep of the season. The Power have won 18 series this season, lost eight and split six.
YEUDY BEST: Yeudy Garcia was honored by Minor League Baseball on Monday as the best player in the South Atlantic League during July. The right-hander went 6-0 with a league-best 0.90 earned run average over six appearances, including five starts. Garcia is the first Power player to be tabbed by Minor League Baseball for an award since Tyler Glasnow was named best Class-A pitcher after the 2013 season.
HONOR ROLL: Jordan Luplow was honored by the South Atlantic League on Monday as the Player-of-the-Week for August 3 through 9. The third baseman hit .414 with four doubles, two home runs, seven walks, six runs batted in and 11 runs scored. Luplow joins Michael Suchy as the only Power players tabbed for weekly awards this season.
PROMO UPDATE- AUGUST 21: The Power will hold a Mystery Ball Sale during the game with against the Lakewood BlueClaws on Friday, August 21, at 7:05 pm . During the game, fans can purchase a brown paper bag for $10 with an autographed baseball inside. Autographs range from current Major Leaguers to celebrities and all proceeds benefit Power Baseball Charities.
POWER POINTS: The Power are 28-26 on the road this season, but have the league's best home record at 40-20. West Virginia has 10 games remaining at Appalachian Power Park this season and 15 left on the road... Tito Polo's stolen base on Monday night was his 40th this season, tied for third most in Power history... Pablo Reyes's seven-game hitting streak and 11 game on-base streak ended with the second baseman leaving Tuesday's game after one at bat...
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh held a 3-1 lead after four, but lost 4-3 to St. Louis on Tuesday. Jeff Locke allowed all four runs and took the loss... Indianapolis walked-off with a 4-3 11 inning win over Toledo. Josh Bell doubled in the winning run... Binghamton grounded Altoona 13-6. Jason Creasy followed Rob Scahill's rehab outing by allowing seven runs on seven hits... Bradenton was doubled up by Jupiter 4-2... The Black Bears lost a 5-2 final at Williamsport.
