Augusta GreenJackets News Release

AUGUSTA, GA: Wednesday, August 12 The Augusta GreenJackets (58-56) and the Hagerstown Suns (56-57) shared Lake Olmstead Stadium for game two of their three game series. Right handed pitcher Chris Johnson made his eleventh start of the season for the GreenJackets on Wednesday night as the Suns countered with RHP Luis Reyes. The GreenJackets let an early two run lead slip away in the seventh inning. But, Johneshwy Fargas hit the game winning single in the bottom of the tenth to give the GreenJackets their second straight victory.

After three scoreless innings the GreenJackets finally showed some life with their bats, when Jonah Arenado lined a double towards the left field line in the bottom of the fourth inning. With Arenado on second base, Skyler Ewing hit a tailing high line drive to right field. The ball was just out of the reach of the arm of Suns right fielder Dale Carey. Carey's momentum sent him crashing hard into the right field wall. Skyler Ewing took advantage of the innocent to motor his way all around the bases for a 2 run inside the park home run. This was Skyler Ewing's first home run of the season and more importantly put the GreenJackets on the board. Thankfully after being evaluated by the Suns' trainer, Dale Carey was able to walk off the field under his own power. He did not return to the game.

For most of the night the GreenJackets starting pitcher Chris Johnson was able to hold off the Suns from scoring time and time again through his five and one third innings of work. After giving up a double to Raudy Read and a walk to Matthew Page, manager Nestor Rojas went to his bullpen to Eury Sanchez. While pitching to Wilman Rodriguez, Sanchez threw a wild pitch to move both runners up into scoring position. Rodriguez hit a sacrifice fly to center field deep enough to score Raudy Read for the Suns first run of the game.

In the top of the seventh inning with Sanchez still pitching for the GreenJackets, the Suns were able to tie the game with yet another sacrifice fly. This time it was Andrew Stevenson with the RBI to score Conor Keniry from third base. The score was tied at two to two and left starting pitcher Chris Johnson with a no decision for the night.

The GreenJackets and Suns remained tied through the rest of the game. Until the bottom of the ninth inning when Chase Compton drew a one out walk. Anrew Cain then came in to pinch run for Compton. Catcher Matt Winn singled to move Cain all the way to third base. With runners on the corners, Travious Relaford popped up in foul territory on the first base side for the second out of the inning. This brought lead off batter Johneshwy Fargas up to the plate. With a strike on him, Fargas ripped a ball to the deep gap in left-center field to easily score Cain and send the GreenJackets players from the dugout onto the field in cheers for the walk off victory.

Wednesday night's final scoreboard line would read two runs, four hits, and two errors for the Hagerstown Suns and three runs, six hits, and zero errors for the Augusta GreenJackets. Carlos Diaz picks up the win for his one inning of work in the top of the ninth inning, while Ryan Brinley receives the loss.

Thursday, August 13th the GreenJackets will attempt to go for the series sweep of the Suns. Mark Reyes (7-4 ERA 2.28) will face off against Justin Amlung (2-1 ERA 3.73). The game time is scheduled for 7:05pm at Lake Olmstead Stadium.
