Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
HICKORY, N.C. (August 12, 2015) - Michael Suiter extending his hitting streak to 21 games with a go-ahead single in the sixth inning, and the Intimidators added to the lead for a 3-1 win over Hickory on Wednesday at L.P. Frans Stadium. Kannapolis (23-22 Second Half, 58-56) snapped its four-game losing skid as Suiter extended hit streak to the longest on record in Intimidators history.
Spencer Adams (9-5) matched the longest outing of his career with seven scoreless innings, limiting the Crawdads to four hits while striking out four for the win. Jose Brito tossed a perfect eighth and allowed an unearned run in the ninth for the save (3).
Suiter broke a scoreless tie with a man on second and one out in the sixth, driving a ball over the shortstop to score John Ziznewski for a 1-0 lead. Suiter surpassed the 20-game hitting streak by Justin Greene during the 2009 season for the longest hit streak on record in team history. His 21-game streak is tied for the longest in the South Atlantic League this season with Hickory's Jairo Beras, who saw his 21-game streak end with an 0-for-3 night against Kannapolis.
Mason Robbins finished the game 2-for-4 with a pair of run-scoring hits off the Crawdads bullpen. He drove in Alexander Simon from first base with a double to right field in the seventh and added an insurance run in the ninth with base hit to plate Louie Lechich.
Hickory starter Ariel Jurado tossed five shutout frames of one-hit ball, giving up no walks and striking out five in a no decision. John Werner (0-3) took the loss, giving up two runs in three relief innings while striking out five. Scott Williams allowed a run in the ninth for the 'Dads.
The Intimidators wrap up this three-game on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. with RHP Thad Lowry (11-6, 3.88 ERA) starting for Kannapolis against Hickory's RHP Collin Wiles (10-3, 2.63 ERA). The Intimidators return to Kannapolis on Friday, August 14, for a three-game series against the Hagerstown Suns.
