West Virginia broke up the shutout in the fifth when Cole Tucker singled home Tyler Filliben, but the "Dogs added two in the bottom of the inning for a 6-1 lead. The Power rallied for two runs in the seventh, keyed by a throwing error with the bases loaded, and two more in the eighth on a Jordan Luplow single. West Virginia put the tying run on the bases in the ninth with no one out, but could not bring the runner home. Brewer took the loss while Justin Kamplain earned the win in relief.
FINAL ROUND: The Power and RiverDogs meet for the final time this season when they take the field this evening. Charleston leads the all-time series with West Virginia 36-28. The Power and 'Dogs split a four game series at Appalachian Power Park in May and have split a pair of one-run decisions in this series. Since 2005, the Power have gone 14-20 at Joseph P. Riley Jr. Park in South Carolina.
CUT LINE: West Virginia has outscored its opponents by 20 runs this season, 274-254. Over the first five innings through 66 games this season, the Power have been outscored 170-157. From the sixth inning on, West Virginia has combined to outscore opponents 117-84.
ONE OVER PAR: Heading into play this evening, West Virginia holds a 17-16 mark away from home. The club will only play 34 road games during the first half due to an April 19 postponement at Lexington that was made up at Appalachian Power Park.
ACES: Chase Simpson was added to the South Atlantic League's Northern Division squad for Tuesday's All-Star Game at Asheville's McCormick Field. Simpson replaces Carlos Tocci, who was promoted from Lakewood to Clearwater. The Power's Elvis Escobar was originally tabbed as a utility outfielder, but will now start in Tocci's place. Pitchers Yeudy Garcia and Junior Lopez were also selected to participate in the mid-season classic.
CALCUTTA? PICK THE POWER: Tuesday's win pushed the Power's record to 6-1 in extra inning games this season. The Hickory Crawdads are the only team in the league that has not lost this season in extras (6-0), while Augusta is the only team that has played more extra inning games in 2015, going 3-6 in bonus baseball games.
NEARLY A GIMME: Jerrick Suiter has driven in 14 runs over 21 games since being activated off the Power Disabled List on May 25. Only seven players in the South Atlantic League have driven in more over that span.
UNFORCED ERRORS: Jose Regalado was charged with a blown save in Tuesday night's ten inning win; the sixth blown save by the Power bullpen this season. The SAL average to this point this season is seven blown saves with Augusta suffering a league-high 16. Greensboro has only blown four saves despite having the league's worst record.
