Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ - Delmarva used a five-run second inning to jump out to a lead and they topped the BlueClaws 6-1 on Thursday night at FirstEnergy Park.

Jared Breen drove in two and scored two for Delmarva, who swept a four-game series from the BlueClaws. Lakewood (32-33) has now dropped five in a row while Delmarva (33-33) has won five straight games.

The BlueClaws were swept in a series for the first time since August of last year.

Riley Palmer put Delmarva up 1-0 with an RBI double and the inning included an RBI single by Yermin Mercedes, a two-run triple by Jared Breen, who scored on his triple after an error by Jiandido Tromp throwing the ball in from centerfield. The Shorebirds added a run in the fourth inning on an RBI triple by Jay Gonzalez to open up a 6-0 lead.

That was more than enough for starter Josh Walker, who threw five scoreless innings to improve to 2-1. All six Delmarva runs were charged to Chris Oliver, who took the loss to fall to 3-5 on the season.

Rhys Hoskins drove in the Lakewood run on a sixth inning RBI single. It was his 50th RBI of the year and he became the first BlueClaw with 50 RBIs in a half since Maikel Franco in 2012. Cord Sandberg and Derek Campbell each had two hits for Lakewood.

Scott Harris and Alexis Rivero each threw two scoreless innings for the BlueClaws in relief.

The BlueClaws open a three-game series with Greenville on Friday night. LHP Elniery Garcia (4-5) starts for Lakewood against RHP Reed Reilly (3-3).
