THE LEAD OFF: West Virginia lost 7-0 to Lakewood on Saturday night. The BlueClaws took a 1-0 lead in the second inning on a Mitch Walding home run off Dovydas Neverauskas. Lakewood added three in the third and three more in the fourth to build their lead. BlueClaws starter Drew Anderson held the Power to four hits over six innings while striking out seven, leading three pitchers in the shutout effort. Erich Weiss had two of West Virginia's five hits.

ONE FOR THE ROAD: The Power and Claws meet for one more game in this homestand before West Virginia travels to Rome and Greensboro on a seven day road trip.

OWENS GETS THE CALL: 2009 Power All-Star Rudy Owens made his Major League debut Friday night for the Houston Astros against the Seattle Mariners. Owens, traded by Pittsburgh with Robbie Grossman for Wandy Rodriguez in 2012, is the 39th former Power player to reach the Majors and the second this year (Casey Sadler).

CRACKED CLAWS: West Virginia holds a 75-64 all-time series lead and have gone 44-47 at home against the Lakewood since 2005, Eight of the remaining 12 meetings with the BlueClaws this season at Appalachian Power Park.

SATURDAY SILENCED: West Virginia's offense was shutout on Saturday night by Lakewood; the third shutout loss this season for the Power. West Virginia's pitching staff has also recorded three shutouts in 2014. Savannah and Delmarva have a league-high five shutouts thrown while Augusta has been offensively blanked six times this year.

TEN TIMES OVER: Shane Carle will make his team-best tenth start of the season when he toes the rubber today against Lakewood. Carle, West Virginia's Opening Day starter, has factored in the decision in five of his nine previous starts. The right-hander will join a handful of players, including Lakewood's Mark Leiter, Jr., with a league-high ten starts for their respective clubs this year.

STILL GOING: Reese McGuire's hitting streak has reached 15 games and is the longest active streak in the South Atlantic League. The catcher has reached safely in every game since returning from the Disabled List on May 3 (18 straight dating back to April 25 prior to his DL stint) and is hitting .379 during his hitting streak. McGuire's streak is the longest by a West Virginia player since Alen Hanson's 16-game streak in April of 2012.

SEVENS AND STOPPED: JaCoby Jones and Justin Maffei have both hit safely in each of their last seven games. Jones is batting .333 during that stretch (9-27) while Maffei has a .500 average (11-22). Jones saw his string of six straight games with a steal stopped on Saturday.

NINE TIMES: Thursday's nine-run output was the second highest run total in a game this season for West Virginia. The club's single game high for runs in 10 (twice- April 13 vs. Lexington and May 12 at Greenville).

PROMO UPDATE- JUNE 3: West Virginia hosts Kannapolis at 7:05 pm on Tuesday, June 3. It is the first of two "Bark in the Park" games at Appalachian Power Park this season. Dogs are admitted free without a ticket.

POWER POINTS: Justin Topa's victory on Friday matched Dovydas Neverauskas for the team lead with three wins... Edwin Espinal was activated from West Virginia's Disabled List on Thursday and was in the starting lineup for the series opener against Lakewood. Pittsburgh also placed outfielder Candon Myles on the Power Disabled List retroactive to May 20.

AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh beat Washington 3-2 with a pair of runs in the seventh. Jared Hughes notched the win and Mark Melacon earned a save as the Pirates pinned a loss on Stephen Strasburg... Indianapolis lost 3-1. The Indians were held to just four hits in the loss... Altoona split a doubleheader with Erie, winning 2-0 and falling 7-6... Bradenton lost 9-5 at Charlotte. The Stone Crabs scored three in the first, two in the third and four in the fifth to upend John Kuchno and the Marauders.
