Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
SALISBURY, Md. (May 24, 2014) - The Delmarva Shorebirds completed a 4-game series sweep of the Kannapolis Intimidators by notching a 5-2 win on Sunday at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium Kannapolis (21-27) has now lost a season-high six straight games.
Jeff Kemp paced the Shorebirds offense, going 4-for-4 with a triple, driving in runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Delmarva scored all five of their runs in the fifth and sixth frames, overcoming a Kannapolis 1-0 lead.
Jeremy Dowdy went 3-for-4 for the Intimidators, scoring the team's first run in the fourth inning on a Zach Voight base hit. Dowdy's third hit drove in Kale Kiser to get a run back in the eighth inning, but that's as close as Kannapolis came to completing a comeback. On Dowdy's single, Trey Michalczewski tried to score from second base, but Shorebirds outfielder Mike Yastrzemski threw home to catcher Chance Sisco, who applied the tag for the innings second out. Yastrzemski, the grandson of Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski, now leads the South Atlantic League with eight outfield assists.
Jake Sanchez took the loss for Kannaplis, allowing three runs on seven hits over 4 and 2/3 innings. Sanchez (4-3), who struck out two and walked two, has now lost his last three decisions. Delmarva's Dylan Rheault (6-0) secured the relief win, tossing 3.0 scoreless innings after starter Hunter Harvey lasted 4.0 frames, allowing a run on three hits while striking out seven.
The Intimidators return to North Carolina to open a 3-game series at Hickory on Monday at 6 p.m. as former Hickory High School standout and Charlotte 49er Tyler Barnette returns to his hometown to make the start for Kannapolis. The Intimidators return to CMC-NorthEast Stadium on Thursday, May 29, for a 4-game series against the first place Hagerstown Suns.
