Six Run 8th Gives Power a 7-1 Win on Sunday

CHARLESTON, WV - West Virginia scored six runs in the bottom of the 8thinning to break a 1-1 tie and top the BlueClaws 7-1 on Sunday afternoon at Appalachian Power Park.

Delvi Francisco (1-1) loaded the bases on a walk, single, and hit batsman, and then hit Erich Weiss to break the tie. After getting an out, he walked Chris Diaz to make it 3-1. Tyler Buckley came on, and after getting an out, Elvis Escobar hit a grand slam to cap the inning and the scoring.

The teams split their four-game series with Lakewood now at 19-28 and West Virginia at 17-32 on the season.

Isaac Sanchez (1-0) threw two scoreless innings for West Virginia to earn the win.

The BlueClaws took the lead on the game's second pitch when Jiandido Tromp hit his first home run of the year. It was the second lead-off home run for the BlueClaws this year (JP Crawford hit the other).

West Virginia got their run, an unearned run off Lakewood starter Ranfi Casimiro, in the 4th inning on a fielder's choice ground-out by Chris Diaz.

Casimiro allowed the unearned run on three hits over five innings and got a no-decision. He has allowed just two earned runs in his last 17 innings covering three starts.

West Virginia starter Shane Carle allowed one run on five hits over seven innings, a season long out. He also got a no-decision.

The BlueClaws open a three-game series Monday night in Greensboro. RHP Tyler Viza (2-4, 3.80) opposes RHP Domingo German (3-1, 2.58) at 7:00.
