Hagerstown Suns News Release

HAGERSTOWN, M.D. - The Hagerstown Suns (35-13) collected their second 6-5 walk-off win in three nights over the Asheville Tourists (26-22) on Sunday, and in so doing won the four-game series three games to one. The Suns are now 8-9 when tied or trailing after eight innings this season.

Hagerstown plated three runs in the bottom of the ninth to walk-off with the win. Shortstop Brennan Middleton led off the inning with a line drive single up the middle. Right fielder Greg Zebrack was then issued a walk to put runners at first and second with no outs. Two batters later, 2B Wilmer Difo sent a double to the wall in center field, bringing home both runners to tie the game. Following Difo's double, SS Emerson Jimenez tried to throw home but the throw sailed into the Suns dugout. That allowed Difo to score and the Suns to walk-off with the win.

The Tourists had gone up by three when they plated three runs in the sixth to break a 1-1 tie. Third baseman Ryan McMahon began that inning by drawing a walk. The next batter, 1B Correlle Prime, tripled to left to make it 2-1 Tourists. Prime scored from third on a fielding error by LF Carlos Lopez, which allowed RF Jordan Patterson to reach base. Patterson scored the third run of the frame on an RBI single by Jimenez.

The Suns battled back by scoring a run each in the bottom of the sixth and seventh to cut the deficit to one. The run in the sixth was scored by DH John Wooten. He led off the frame with a double, and moved to third on a fielding error. Catcher Craig Manuel brought him home from third with a groundout to first. In the seventh it was another error by Asheville that allowed Zebrack to score after he had gotten on with a leadoff walk. The Tourists totaled four errors in the game.

The final Asheville run crossed the plate in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Patterson. That gave the Tourists the two-run cushion they would relinquish in the ninth. LHP Trent Daniel (0-1) was charged with the loss and blown save for Asheville. He wound up throwing just 0.1 innings, and giving up three runs (two earned) on two hits and one walk. RHP David Ramos (1-0) came away with the win for Hagerstown in his season debut. He worked two innings and allowed one earned run on three hits. RHP Jefry Rodriguez started for Hagerstown and also made his season debut. He went five innings, surrendering one earned run on six hits and one walk while striking out four.

The Suns next head to Salisbury, MD to battle the Delmarva Shorebirds (27-21) in a four-game series beginning with a double-header on Monday May 26. In the first game of the Double-header on Monday Delmarva will send LHP Steven Brault (4-2) to the mound. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05pm.
