
Savannah Wins Slugfest over Legends, 11-6

(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) Jorge Rivero had four hits, including a home run to lead Savannah's offense in an 11-6 win over the Lexington Legends Sunday. Stefan Sabol and Victor Crusado also homered as part of a 16-hit Savannah attack.
The Sand Gnats opened the scoring with two runs in the second inning. Cruzado hit a solo homer with one out. Sabol followed with a double. Matt Oberste reached on an error by third baseman Mauricio Ramos as Sabol went to third. Sabol scored on a sacrifice fly by Jeff Glenn.
Alfredo Escalera's home run in the bottom of the third cut the lead to 2-1. Glenn's RBI double in the fourth made the score 3-1, but the Legends answered with a run in the fifth.
Sabol's homer in the sixth gave Savannah a 4-2 lead, and the Sand Gnats gained some breathing room with three runs in the seventh. With one out, Patrick Biondi singled, moved to second on a wild pitch, to third on a single by Rivero and scored on Gavin Cecchini's double as Rivero moved to third.
Rivero scored on a passed ball by catcher Chad Johnson, and Cecchini took third. A sacrifice fly by L.J. Mazzilli scored Cecchini, and Savannah led 7-2.
The Legends scored two runs in the seventh inning. Dex Kjerstad, playing in his first professional game, doubled, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a ground out by Samir Duenez. Ramon Torres' solo homer with two outs cut the lead to 7-4.
Savannah added four runs in the ninth inning. With one out, Rivero homered, and five consecutive singles produced three more runs.
Torres hit his second home run of the game in the bottom of the ninth with a man on, leaving the final score at 11-6.
Savannah starter Chris Flexon (2-5) worked the first six innings and got the win. He allowed five hits and two runs. Dario Alvarez finished the game and picked up his first save.
Legends starter Luis Rico (2-5) was the losing pitcher.
Savannah, the first-place team in the South Atlantic League Southern Division, won three out of four games in the series.
The Legends travel to Asheville for a three-game series. Game time Monday is 7:05 p.m.
