McRae: Surrendered three unearned runs over 4.0 IP with 3 K and 1 BB in 5/9 ND vs. CSC (7-5 RiverDogs)
Williams: Allowed one run on six hits over 5.0 IP with 3 K and 1 BB in 5/9 W @ GVL (11-7 Suns)
THE LEAD OFF: West Virginia and Hagerstown split Thursday's doubleheader with the Power winning game one 3-0 but dropping the nightcap by the same score. Game one saw a fantastic pitching performance by Yeudy Garcia who went five shutout innings and surrendered just two hits while keeping a low pitch count. Offensively in game one, The Power plated two in the third inning on RBI singles from Jeff Roy and Cole Tucker, then added their final run in the fourth on a Pablo Reyes double. Montana DuRapau earned his first career South Atlantic League save by working two shutout innings. Game two saw Jose Regalado suffer the loss and the Power tallied just three hits.
SUNS OF ANARCHY: The Power conclude their first-half series with the Hagerstown Suns with game three of the five-game set at Municipal Stadium. The Power are 4-3 against the Suns this season and currently trail the all-time series 76-65. The two teams will meet again in the second half of the season with a three-game series at Appalachian Power Park from July 14-16 and one more time at Municipal Stadium from July 25-28.
CAN'T REPLACE THIS SIMPSON: Chase Simpson is the only West Virginia player to appear in all 33 games this season. The infielder leads the team with a .294 average and 16 runs batted in. Simpson is also tied for the team lead with four home runs and his .416 on base percentage is also the best on the team and the fifth best in the South Atlantic League The most amount of games played by a Power player in one season was in 2008 when Caleb Gindl and Zealous Wheeler each appeared in 137 of 139 games played. During the Pirates-Power affiliation, the most amount of games played was Dan Grovatt and Mel Rojas, Jr., who each played 131 of 138 games in 2011.
GET LO-LO-LO: Power reliever Junior Lopez tossed a scoreless sixth inning in the game two loss on Thursday night. Lopez has tossed 12.2 scoreless innings since he surrendered a run on Opening Day against the Savannah Sand Gnats. The right hander is 3-0 with a 0.66 ERA in his first season with the Power.
REYES THE ROOF: West Virginia second baseman Pablo Reyes is riding an 18-game on-base streak dating back to April 23. The streak is tied for the seventh longest in all the league in 2015 and it's also tied for the third longest active streak. During his 18-game stretch, Reyes is hitting .302 (19-for-63) and has a .389 OBP. Not far behind Reyes is Jordan Luplow who has reached base in 14 consecutive games. As a team, the Power have a .345 on-base percentage which is the best in the league.
CUP O' JOE: Power first baseman Connor Joe made his professional debut on Monday night against the RiverDogs. Joe missed all of last season and the early stages of this year due to injury. The Pirates drafted Joe with the 39th overall selection of last year's draft from the University of San Diego.
POWER PROMO UPDATE- MAY 23: West Virginia will host Redneck Night IV on Saturday, May 23 at 7:05 p.m. when they play the Delmarva Shorebirds. Activities for the award-winning promotion include Redneck Idol, a camo hat giveaway to the first 1,000 fans, an appearance by History Channel's Appalachian Outlaws, and a pre & postgame concert by the Davisson Brothers Band.
POWER POINTS: The Power are 11-1 when scoring first this season and own the best winning percentage in the South Atlantic League in that category...Cole Tucker is currently the best defensive shortstop in the South Atlantic League with just two errors and a .976 fielding percentage...The Power are 6-7 this month after going 13-7 during the first month of the season...West Virginia trails Hickory by 4.5 games in the South Atlantic League's Northern Division.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh rallied late but lost to Philadelphia 4-2 to earn a series split...Indianapolis won 3-2 with Charlie Morton in a rehab appearance. Morton tossed seven innings and struck out eight batters. Altoona won in walkoff fashion with Josh Bell drawing a bases-loaded walk to down Akron and the Curve won their fifth straight...Austin Meadows tallied his first career five-hit game and drove in the winning run in Bradenton's 7-6 win in 12 innings.
