Greenville Drive News Release
Charleston, SC - The Battle of the Palmetto State was taken over by a Razorback on Friday night, as Jalen Beeks fired seven scoreless innings to give the Greenville Drive (19-15) a 5-1 victory over the Charleston RiverDogs. With the win, the Drive have won four straight games, including the first two of the rivalry series with Charleston.
Beeks cruised all game long, as he allowed only one RiverDogs runner to reach third base. Over his seven innings of work, he allowed just four hits and one walk with two strikeouts to improve his record to 3-1.
The Drive took a 1-0 lead in the third inning against Charleston starter David Palladino (1-2) when Mike Meyers led off with a single and later scored on Jordan Procyshen's RBI groundout.
A three-run sixth allowed Greenville to pull away. Rafael Devers drew a leadoff walk against Andre Del Bosque, and after a Michael Chavis single, a misplay by Charleston in right field allowed Devers to come in to score. Javier Guerra followed with an RBI single to make the score 3-0, and Meyers capped the frame with a sacrifice fly.
Guerra added an RBI groundout in the top of the eighth to extend the lead to five runs. Charleston ended the Drive's shutout bid in the ninth when Chris Breen smacked a solo homer to center, but Mario Alcantara bounced back to retire the final three hitters in the inning to finish the game.
Procyshen and Mauricio Dubon each collected two hits for Greenville on the night. Brandon Thomas led Charleston with two hits.
The series continues at 6:05 PM on Saturday night in Charleston. RH Denny Bautista will make his Drive debut on the mound, and the RiverDogs will start RH Luis Cedeno (3-1, 1.86).
