Augusta, GA - The Hickory Crawdads league-leading pitching staff put on another standout performance Thursday night, as the 'Dads kick started their 4-game series in Augusta with a 1-0 shutout victory over the GreenJackets at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

The shutout was the Crawdads 6th of the season, their third in 12 games played in the month of May. Starting pitcher Luis Ortiz led the way with five scoreless frames to begin the game, while relievers Adam Parks and John Fasola finished things off with four combined shutout innings. The shutdown performance lowered the 'Dads already South Atlantic League-best team ERA to 2.85 for the year.

The lone run in the ballgame came in the 4th, when the Crawdads were able to put together three singles and a walk to take a 1-0 lead. Travis Demeritte started the inning with an infield base knock and was followed by a Luke Tendler single to right to put runners on the corners with nobody out. After a strikeout by Jose Trevino, Tripp Martin came through with a chopping single through the left side of the infield to plate Demeritte and put the 'Dads on top 1-0.

Augusta threatened several times in the contest most notably in the 7th, when Skyler Ewing doubled off the wall in left-center and Christian Paulino reached on an infield single to put runners on the corners with no outs. Parks struck out the next batter before an aggressive play by the GreenJackets backfired, as a double steal resulted in a double caught stealing with the 'Dads throwing out both Paulino at 2nd and Ewing at the plate to maintain their 1-0 advantage.

Ortiz (2-0) earned the win for Hickory with his second straight scoreless outing. The 19-year-old hurler has now tossed 12.2 consecutive shutout frames. Fasola improved to a perfect 7/7 in save opportunities with his shutdown 9th. Augusta starter Mark Reyes (1-1) was the hard luck loser, as he allowed the lone run on five hits over his six innings pitched.

The Crawdads (23-9) will take on the GreenJackets (17-15) in game two of their four-game series Friday night at 7:05 pm.
