Asheville Tourists News Release

ASHEVILLE, NC--Not long ago the Asheville Tourists had won four of five and seemed to be turning the corner on their 2015 season. However, Friday night was a microcosm of this season as once again the bats fell silent and the defense had its troubles. The Rome Braves took advantage and won 6-0 sending the Tourists to their fourth straight loss.

Tourists starting pitcher Zach Jemiola surrendered a two-out RBI single to Tanner Murphy in the top of the second inning. That was all the Braves needed but Jemiola continued to battle. After Rome took a 2-0 lead in the third when a pair of base hits came on balls lost in the sun, Jemiola held Rome scoreless through the sixth.

In the top of the seventh, Braxton Davidson was hit by a pitch and Rome followed with back-to-back RBI doubles. Later in the inning Joseph Daris drove in a run with a double and then scored on a triple that was severely misplayed in right field.

For the Tourists, they never had more than one runner on base at the same time. They managed two hits early when Forrest Wall bunted for a single in the second and Dom Nunez singled to lead off the third. On both occasions, the following batter grounded into a double-play. Asheville's next hit came in the seventh when Drew Weeks lined a single to center. In the eighth, Josh Fuentes doubled to lead off the inning but was left stranded at third.

Scott Firth and James Lomangino combined for 2.1 innings of shutout baseball in relief for Asheville. The two teams are back at it on Saturday evening for a 6:05pm first pitch.
