Savannah, GA - The Lexington Legends piled up 18 hits to defeat the Savannah Sand Gnats 9-3 Friday night at Historic Grayson Stadium. The loss was the third straight for the Gnats who have lost five of their last six games.
The Legends (15-19) broke a 3-3 with a run in the top of the sixth inning against Savannah reliever Alberto Baldonado. CF Bradon Downes doubled and scored on C Luis Villegas' RBI single into right. Downes finished 5-for-5 with two doubles and triple. He scored the fifth Lexington run in the eighth inning after doubling to left-center.
The Legends tacked on four more runs against a bullpen combination of David Roseboom and Paul Paez in the ninth inning.
The Gnats (12-21) scored their only three runs in the bottom of the third. SS Luis Guillorme brought home the first run with a bunt base hit along the first base line. The second and third runs scored when Lexington first baseman Ryan O'Hearn could not handle 3B Eudor Garcia's hot shot to first.
Neither starter, Casey Meisner for Savannah, or Foster Griffin for Lexington, pitched past the fifth inning.
The Gnats and Legends continue their four-game series tomorrow at 6:05 PM. The Sand Gnats will start RHP Josh Prevost (0-4, 5.40), while Lexington will send RHP Nik Stephenson (1-2, 3.45) to the hill. Saturday will be Pink in the Park, Gnats players will wear special pink jerseys that will be auctioned off during the game. The jerseys will be autographed after the game and proceeds will benefit Susan G. Koman For The Cure Coastal Georgia affiliate. The game will be followed by another spectacular fireworks show.
